Marciano was a pure Italian-American product that inspired in part the character of Rocky Balboa for his name, but also for his jaw of steel. Yet the sardonic mask of his nonchalance shelters an unsuspected metaphysical appetite, a penchant for solitude and an analytical mind that contrasts with his social desire to please. He retired in 1956, with a boxrec of 49 victories and no defeats.
