The semantic of concrete (béton brut in French) is the foundation of brutalist architecture. A simple inhabitation building like the Dnepropetrovsk circus building looks modern and terrifying at the same time. Beautiful and oppressing, majestic and sad, unremarkable on one side, and similar to wrecked spaceship on the other.
